The Jerry
“Can I have a shot of Jack Daniels on rocks?” This was my usual words to my favorite bartender Josh on those tiresome Friday evenings.
“Rough day huh?” Josh gave me my order and started wiping the counter.
“You have no idea Josh. Every single day I got my Boss busting my balls over a file or other. My job is a nightmare.”
“Well, I know my customer” Josh said while refilling my shot. He knew I needed least 4 shots to get my system back on normal track. “We all got work place violence and shit.”
“True. Yet I am the one who have to get the food on my table. Not the guy wearing a 10000 dollar Armani suit driving a BMW. My boss doesn’t give a shit about the company. He got his savings on major stocks. Sometimes I think he gets this sick pleasure of henpecking me.”
“Sounds like a real tragedy king dude.” Josh said while leaning over the counter. “But still I think he’s better than my ex wife.”
We both wore the smile of complaining on women. I gulped down the last drops of my shots and a really unique voice caught the attention of my ears.
“Look I am telling you… This really is hurting me too much” I turned over the counter to see a couple arguing over something. The unique voice was the voice of the guy. A young guy around 20, looks educated yet casual and mediocre. The girl was almost in tears and she was dragging on the guy’s jacket. I don’t judge people on appearance but he didn’t appear to be a girl’s dream boy. The girl was above average good looking. Couples like this could happen but only if the guy is super rich yet this guy didn’t rock any Rolexes or had a $2000 suit. He had a straight face and this super model was begging her for something. This wasn’t something you can see every day.
“Oh ho, ho” Josh started laughing. “Looks like Gavin getting rid of another girl this week. That’s the third this month.”
“Who is that and what do you mean?” I was puzzled.
“Who is that and what do you mean?” I was puzzled.
“Well he’s this guy who can get ‘any’ girl he wants. I’ve seen him with that girl a few days now. He usually gets all his bills paid that way.”
“Clever fella,” I took a sip from my drink.
“I am sorry but you need to leave me. You remind me of my ex.” He started making more sad facial expressions making the girl even more devastated.

“I know you love your ex and she died in that car crash” The girl started saying. “But we can start a new life together. You and me, I will get my divorce and move in with you right away with my kids or even without kids.”
“That’s doesn’t seem like an option. I don’t think it will work.” The guy said while walking away from the girl. He started coming towards the bar leaving the girl all alone.
“I can’t believe you. I cheated on my husband for you. I thought you loved me. I thought I was filling the hole your ex left when she died.” The girl who was in tears screamed at the guy as she left the place. There weren’t much to watch the scene but the few of us ‘enjoyed’ the show.
The guy sat on the bar stool beside me.
“One martini dude” He placed an order and started looking around casually.
“All good with your girlfriend?” Josh asked while preparing his Martini.
“Who Natalia?” asked while making a bored expression with his face. “She was all good until I learned that she wants to move in with me and get married. This was getting too far away so I decided to pull the plug.”
“ha! Well whatever fits you buddy.” Josh took g’s money for the drink and started wiping the counter. “Looks like you will be back paying for drinks haha”
“Yeah we will see about that” G said while taking a sip off his martini.
It was getting late and I was hungry too. I got up to get back home. I was about to say good bye to Josh when this really pretty girl walked into the bar. She looked really cute and there was this face of a kitten’s innocence in her face. And her clothes also illuminated that she is not an average office worker. It was obvious she was at least a 6 digit salary collector from the looks. She sat on a bar stool and ordered a drink. I got up said good bye to Josh and walked at the toilet to liberate myself from all the drinks I had. It was getting more late and when I came out from the toilet. G wasn’t alone anymore. He was sitting beside the cute girl who walked in the bar earlier. I walked past them with a grim smile on my face. I swear I could see the same look on Josh’s face. And I also overheard their discussion on my way out.
“My ex, she was the love of my life… But she died from cancer three months ago. Ever since I was lonely and nobody cares about me”
“Awe Jerry. That’s so sad. Here let me buy you a drink”
